This is an introductory course in woodworking as well as an introduction to the World of Manufacturing. We may set up our own company and mass produce products that we will later sell to consumers if the class is motivated enough. Safety, the use of hand tools, power hand tools, machinery, simple design and an introduction on how to run a business will all be topics and skills we will learn about and develop. This course will be more individual based than Woods I. Students will be required to do some type of Community or School Project and will also do a more complicated final project by semester’s end. Lathe work, specialty joints and more complex custom production of wood working projects will all be components of this course. Students may also serve as mentors for the intro students at times. Intro to Architectural and Mechanical Design This class will introduce students to the world of Architectural and Mechanical design. Much of the class will entail learning about the skills needed to produce quality drawings. Basic techniques in layout, lettering and use of tools as well as multi view drawings of both Architectural and Mechanical drawings are all skills and methods you will learn in order to create quality drawings. There will also be an introduction to Auto Cad and Pro Desktop 3-D. You will also have an opportunity to create some drawings with these programs as well. This class will mainly deal with Architectural Design, Pro Desktop 3-D and Auto CAD, but various mechanical drawings will be done as well. You will create a portfolio of Auto CAD and manual drawings and also do more complex drawings such as Isometrics, Obliques and Revolutions. You will also create a full set of plan and elevation views of a house you will design yourself by semester’s end. This class will do school and community projects and develop a variety of skills relating to Graphic Design and the software involved. The first nine weeks of the course will be spent doing projects for print and learning graphics programs such as: Page Maker, InDesign, Illustrator and Photo Shop. The second nine weeks will be dedicated to learning the basics of webdesign, HTML and introducing students to webdesign program GoLive. The School Web Site, Theatre and Sporting Programs, Card and T-Shirt Design, Business Cards and the School Newspaper are some of the “real life” projects we may get a chance to participate in. Creating with Video is a course that introduces students to non-linear editing systems and the accompanying software used to create video programs. We will talk extensively about planning, shooting and editing techniques. Becoming a knowledgeable consumer will be a large portion of the class which in turn, will allow students to leave class with a working knowledge in the world of video. The class is designed to let students explore their creative/artistic side using video and at the same time help them to become educated consumers in this electronic age. The course will emphasize organizational skills, goal setting, camera operation, editing effects, audio applications, planning and project critiques. Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and DVD editing software are some of the software you will be using. Fundamentals of Web Design sponsored by Adobe Systems will focus on the overall production processes surrounding Web site design with particular emphasis on design elements involving layout, navigation and interactivity. Cisco Networking Academy students will learn Web Design in preparation for higher education or jobs in the Internet Economy. Hands-on Web Design exercises will be taught using Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe Illustrator®, Adobe GoLive™, Adobe LiveMotion™, and Adobe Premiere®. When students successfully complete the course they will be eligible to take the Webmaster’s Certification Test at an alternate site. |
