Montpelier Design for Education

Adopted December 14, 2005

Goal 1: Students learn at the highest levels.

The voice, talent, and interest of Montpelier students are nurtured, challenged, and celebrated as central to a good education.  Each student demonstrates excellence in an area central to his or her passion or interest. Students meet high academic expectations and become independent, self-directed, and life-long learners.

Goal 2: Teachers excel.

With clear standards, strong professional development, and a value on innovation, Montpelier teachers and educators are recognized across Vermont as superior professionals who bring out the best in their students.  Demonstrated excellence is a factor in recognition, retention, and leadership opportunities.

Goal 3: The community and schools collaborate to support

          learning for everyone.

Montpelier’s public schools create great value for the community through extraordinary efforts to provide learning opportunities, access to the performing arts, sports, and recreational facilities for all. There is ongoing participation by capital city citizens of all ages in the life of our schools and by our students in the life of the Montpelier community.

In particular, parents of students support and participate in the education of their children. The schools communicate clearly and frequently to ensure that parents are aware of their child’s progress and opportunities.  Parents respond to the schools through involvement in their child’s educational program and participation in school activities.
