It is the policy of the Montpelier School
System to have procedures in place to provide appropriate health services to
students and to protect the health of the population of the school community. School-based
health services are not provided to employees, except in emergencies.
The superintendent is responsible for
developing and implementing procedures to accomplish the following:
- Administration
of first aid and emergency care.
- Safe
administration of prescription medication as directed by the student’s
health care provider;
- Safe
administration of non-prescription medication as directed by the student’s
parent, guardian, or health care provider;
- Communication
with the student, parent, guardian, or health care provider about the
efficacy of medication administered during school hours;
- Required
reporting to the State of Vermont Department of Health;
- Exclusion
of students with contagious diseases in a highly communicable state; and
- Partner
with families to treat health issues while protecting the health of others
in the school population.
- Meet
the health services requirements of state and federal law.
