Welcome! to the Montpelier High School CBL Website Community Based Learning (CBL) is a “learning-by- doing” experience that utilizes the community as an extension of the classroom. Students spend between 15 100 hours per semester in a community placement that they choose and set goals for their learning. Along with weekly visits to their community site, students meet once a week with a school supervisor to reflect on the week’s activities and to check in on the progress of learning goals. Students complete their requirements both during school hours and/or after school. Students are expected to develop and complete a semester project that represents their learning and present it to a group of their peers and community members at the end of the semester. Students receive academic credit for their work. CBL is an elective course. This site is meant for parents and students to learn more about the CBL program at Montpelier High School. It also provides necessary contact information if a student is interested in the CBL program. If you want more information on the CBL program click on Employer Information, Learning Plan, Requirements, and Transportation Agreement. If you want some examples of students' experiences, click on the Student Reviews link and find the personal stories of four Montpelier High School students as well as pictures of several students at their CBLs. To find examples of different CBLs click on the Site Placements link. There you will find a complete list of students' CBLs in the 2006-2007 school year.
