| 865 DANCE I FUNDAMENTALS OF DANCE (N) (Fall and/or Spring) SUMMARY: Dance I exposes students to the skills, concepts, and styles of basic dance technique. Students explore elements comprising dance while developing strength and flexibility as well as facility in performing varied dance combinations. The course is designed to give students an understanding of dance as an art form as well as a pleasurable life enriching activity. The class will combine warm up, technique, and choreographic work. Aspects of production will be dealt with in both Dance I and Dance II. EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS: This is a “hands on” course. Students must be prepared to participate in each class. Classes consist of warm-up exercises, movement combinations and choreography. Students are expected to execute class material to the best of their ability. There is at least one performance per semester. ASSESSMENT: Assessment is based on an individual’s participation and progress and how they work within the group as a whole. KEY STANDARDS: Vital Results: 1.16 Expression, 2.8 Taking Risks, 2.11 & 2.22 Abstract and Creative Thinking, 3.6 Fitness, 3.10 Teamwork, 4.3 Cultural Expression Fields of Knowledge: 5.22 & 5.25 Artistic Process, 5.36 & 5.37 Elements, Forms and Techniques in the Arts: Dance 0.5 Credit - Semester 866 DANCE II INTERMEDIATE DANCE (N) (Fall and/or Spring) Dance II further explores technique, choreography, and repertory with an emphasis on student directed choreography in order to challenge the student’s creativity and develop his/her self-expression through movement. Daily technique expands movement vocabulary and provides a means of maintaining and building strength and flexibility. Prerequisites: Dance I or previous dance experience or permission from instructor required. EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS: This is a “hands on” course. Students must be prepared to participate in each class. Classes consist of warm-up exercises, movement combinations and choreography.
