Matt McLane
Howdy. My name is Matt McLane and my position as Community Based Learning (CBL) Coordinator allows me to help link students with resources in the community for various activities including, CBL placements, part time jobs, apprenticeships, summer jobs, internships, job shadows, volunteer community service activities, and service learning activities. The students in our school are very fortunate to have such generous and diverse community support and that support provides for exceptional learning opportunities for the varied interests and passions of our student body.

My responsibilities include:

Guidance:

a. Help students evaluate their job skills, employability and assist in job searches

b. Connect students to outside employment/community resources

c. Provide individual and group counseling on career awareness

d. Provide assistance for students in overcoming barriers to employment

e. Assist students in the development of resumes, cover letters and interviewing techniques.

Outreach:

a. Work collaboratively with community organizations in the development of school / community partnerships

b. Provide resources to those students who will transition to the world of work upon graduation

c. Arrange job site visits for students

d. Arrange for and coordinate job shadowing

Special Programs:

a. Coordinate and Community Based Learning Program

b. Coordinate and serve as advisor in the MHS Internship program

c. Develop, coordinate and implement special programs around career awareness

d. Serve as an advisor to students involved in the Community Based Learning (CBL) program

e. Assist faculty members with career related programs/activities

Curriculum:

a. Teach Career Connections and Community Connections classes

b. Provide assistance to classroom teachers in the integration of applied learning in the classroom

c. Be available to teach, or assist in teaching STW units in regular classrooms

Resource Development

a. Develop and maintain, with other STW faculty members, a data base of occupational resources in the community
