SAE Engineering Scholarships - applicants must intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science and must meet minimum requirements with regard to grade point average and SAT Reasoning and/or ACT scores. Applications are available in guidance and must be postmarked by December 1, 2007.

 

Ron Brown Scholar Program – applicants must be academically talented, highly motivated African American students who plan to pursue undergraduate degrees full-time.  Applications available in guidance or at www.ronbrown.org.  Postmark deadline November 1, 2007.

The William Randolph Hearst Scholarship – Applicants must be juniors or seniors serving in an elected capacity in student government.  Applications are available in guidance or at http://www.vpaonline.org    Applications must be sent by certified mail by October 15, 2007.

 

Wendy’s High School Heisman Award – Applicants must be seniors who have demonstrated hard work and dedication in academics, athletics and student leadership.  Applications are available online at www.wendysheisman.com  Deadline is October 1, 2007.

 

Coca-Cola Scholars Program – Applicants must be seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 after junior year who plan to attend an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.  Applications are available online at www.coca-colascholars.org  Deadline is October 31, 2007.

 

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship – awards based on leadership and academics.  Awards given at the local, state and national level.  Applications available in guidance or at www.elks.org/enf/scholars.  Deadline January 11, 2008.

 

Roger J. Sheridan Memorial Scholarship – applicant must be planning to enter college to undertake a career in physical education.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline February 1, 2008.

New England Federal Credit Union Nursing Scholarship Program – applicant must be a member in good standing with the Credit Union.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline February 29, 2008.

 

Vermont Lions Hart Memorial Award – awarded to a student with a disability or debilitating illness who has shown stellar academic achievement and community involvement.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline March 12, 2008.

 

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund – Mrs. Scott was a victim of the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon.  This scholarship has been established by her family to honor her legacy.  Eligibility: U.S. citizen or permanent resident; GPA 2.5 or higher; high school senior who must matriculate at a U.S. accredited four year college or university; have demonstrated leadership through community service, extra curricular activities, etc.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline March 15, 2008.

The Humane Society of the United States Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship – applicant must be a high school senior who has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection over a significant period of time.  For more information on how to apply, please come to guidance.  Deadline March 17, 2008.

 

Montpelier Emblem Club Scholarship – applications available in guidance.  Essay topic: “What being a citizen of the United States means to me.”  Deadline April 1, 2008.

 

Washington County Retired Teachers Scholarship Application – applicant must plan to major in education.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline April 1, 2008.

 

Freeman Nurse Scholars Program – applicants must be seeking a nursing degree at one of Vermont’s five schools of nursing.  Recipients must agree to practice in Vermont for a minimum of two years.  Applications available at www.choosenursingvermont.org.  Deadline April 1, 2008.

 

American Legion Department of Vermont Scholarship Program – applicants must be attending secondary schools in Vermont and must have been accepted at an approved and accredited school or college at the time of consideration.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline April 1, 2008.

 

 

 

Sons of the American Legion Dennis Comi Scholarship – applicant must be planning to attend a trade school or technical college and have a family member who is a member of the American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline April 1, 2008.

 

The Point, Vermont State Colleges & Milne Travel American Express Community Service Scholarship – awarded to a student who will attend one of the Vermont State Colleges.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline April 4, 2008.

 

Vermont Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program – Applicants must be members of the Credit Union and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline April 4, 2008.

 

North Country Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program – Applicants must show scholastic excellence, a desire to advance their education and a strong history of volunteerism and a commitment to serving their community.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline April 11, 2008.

 

Vermont Golf Association Scholarship – applicants must be in the top 40% of their graduating class and have a minimum combined SAT score of 1500.  Selection is based on financial need, scholarship and the applicant’s connection to the game of golf, i.e., golf team, working in golf shop, working for grounds superintendent, etc.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline April 20, 2008.

 

Vermont Grocers’ Association Scholarship Program – applicants must meet one or more of the following:  Be the dependent of a VGA associate or retail member store/company owner or employee; be an employee of a VGA retail member store/associate member company; be employed a minimum of 15 hrs/wk or 750 hrs/yr and have been employed at a VGA retail member store or member company for a minimum of one year at the time of application for this scholarship.  Applications available upon request from:  Donna Hogan, Vermont Grocers’ Association, 135 No. Main Street – Suite 5, Rutland, VT  05701-3238.  Deadline April 25, 2008.

 

Vermont Principals’ Association ‘Reach for the Stars’ Scholarship – awarded to a graduating senior, first generation college student, attending college in Vermont with the intention of remaining in Vermont after college.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 1, 2008.

 

The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund – applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, be enrolled in a demanding course of study, and have significant financial need.  More criteria, information and application available at

Central Vermont Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship – applicants must be planning to enter a medical field (not including pre-med).  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 1, 2008.

 

Clara J. Hill Scholarship – applicant must be planning a career in education or a closely related field involving youth; be in need of financial aid; exhibit qualities of leadership, good moral character and involvement in school and community activities.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 1, 2008.

Frank & Vera Corry Scholarships – Awarded to two worthy MHS seniors (1 male, 1 female) for the purpose of attending college.  Winners must demonstrate academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities and financial need. The Deborah F. Smith Treiber Scholarship – This scholarship is given in memory of Deborah Smith Treiber to a student who has displayed goodwill to fellow students, teachers and staff and has actively participated in school and community activities.

Barre Fish & Game Club Scholarship – applicant must hold a current VT Resident Fishing, Hunting, Trapping or Combination License and be planning to major in agriculture or environmental sciences, environmental studies, forestry, state forest  & parks recreation, wildlife ecology, fisheries biology or natural resources.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 15, 2008.

 

James & Elizabeth Martin Burnes Family Scholarship – awarded to a deserving graduate who has demonstrated a genuine desire to make the most of his/her high school career.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 15, 2008.

Lynda Aldrich Memorial Scholarship – Applicant must be a graduating female senior who has demonstrated sportsmanship and/or leadership during her four years at MHS. Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 15, 2008.

 

RSVP Community Service Award – Applicant must be a graduating senior, but not necessarily attending college.  Award is based on service that is beyond meeting an educational goal.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 16, 2008.

 

Donald W. Webster Memorial Scholarship – awarded by American Legion Montpelier Post #3 to a worthy student in memory of Donald W. Webster.  Applications available in guidance.  Deadline May 16, 2008.

 A. Russell Richardson Union Mutual of Vermont Scholarship – Given by the Directors of Union Mutual of Vermont in memory of A. Russell Richardson to a student who plans to major in Business.

 

Class of 1958 Scholarship – Given by the MHS Class of 1958 to a graduating senior with financial need who is committed to being successful in college.  This scholarship award will be used by the recipient to purchase books.

 

Fothergill, Segale & Valley Scholarship – Awarded to a senior who intends to major in accounting or business in college.

 

Harold Pineo Jackson Memorial Scholarship – Given to a student who achieved outstanding accomplishments in scholarship and extra-curricular activities.

 

Kewley Science Memorial Scholarship – Given in memory of Norman B. Kewley to a student pursuing a bachelor degree in science.  The student must have taken a course in chemistry in high school and be planning to take additional chemistry courses in college.

 

M & R Charities Scholarship – Given to a graduating senior who is in good academic standing, has participated in extracurricular activities and plans to attend college.  M & R Charities own Twin City Lanes in Barre and Champlain Lanes in Shelburne.

 

Madeline C. Kinzel Foundation Scholarship – To honor and celebrate the life of Madeleine Kinzel, this scholarship is awarded to a member of the graduating class who has demonstrated a deep appreciation  of and strong interest in the arts.

 

Masque Memorial Scholarship – Given to a student who has been involved in theater while a student at MHS.

 

Montpelier Firefighters’ Association Scholarship – Awarded to a student who plans to study either Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science or another technical field.

 

Montpelier Mothers’ Club – Awarded to a graduate who plans to major in Elementary Education.

 

Montpelier Woman’s Club Scholarship – Given by the Montpelier Woman’s Club in support of a deserving female member of  the graduating class who intends to further her education at a two or four year college.

 

Pitkin-Westcott Scholarship – Given to a student who has quietly given to the school and/or community.  An unsung hero!

 

Robin F. Farnham Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a senior who has been accepted at and plans to attend a 2 year school, has maintained good scholastic performance and in all other aspects stands well qualified.

 

Roselli Family Scholarship – Awarded to a student with a ‘B’ or better average who has financial need and best reflects the mission of MHS.

 

Sue V. Kelly Memorial Scholarship – Given in memory of Sue V. Kelly, a longtime employee of the Montpelier School system, to a student attending a college or university in Vermont.

 

The Juan & Marion Jewett Gomez Scholarship – Given in memory of Juan & Marion Jewett Gomez by their daughter, a 1962 graduate of MHS, to encourage and support a female member of the graduating class seeking a college degree in a specific occupational field that will provide her with a challenging and satisfying career.

 

Thomas J. Fischer, Fred D. Ziegler, Christopher Lundberg Health Science Scholarship–

Given to a deserving student who is entering the health science field.
