Boy’s Basketball has a weight training session tonight from 7:00 – 8:30 in the Weight Room.

There will be Open Mic tonight at The Basement Teen Center beginning at 7:00. All are welcome. The Basement is also organizing a hike on May 15 through Hubbard Park. The hike will leave from the Teen Center at 3:30 and return around 5:30. Food will be served.

NEXT YEAR'S IRISH HUMANITIES TRAVELERS: If you have signed up for Irish Humanities next year and you will be traveling to Ireland with the class, you must come to Room 106 soon for your summer assignment! You need this by Monday.

There will be a meeting for parents of all prospective Irish Humanities travelers at 6:00 in the Library on Monday, May 12. Your parents should have received a letter in the mail about this. See Squier with questions.

The Governor’s office is starting their process of appointing a student to the State Board of Education. They are looking for a student who will graduate in 2010 or later and interested in a two-year term beginning on July 1, 2008. Additional information and applications are available in the MHS Office. The application deadline is May 16, 2008

A student discovered that her bike seat had been vandalized by someone who marked it with a symbol which could be perceived as a hate crime. Anyone with information please report to Jen Wall or Peter Evans.

We have had several iPods stolen over the last two days. If you have information or picked them up. Please see Jen.

Thayer Peterson and Courtney Brassard want your Barbie dolls! If anyone has any of the Barbie family dolls or the Barbie car and you can donate them for the Art Show, please bring them to the Main Office. Thanks!

Three Art students seeking high heels! They are looking for 3 pair of heels for the Art Show – any size is great! Please bring them to the Main Office if you can help. Thanks!

GUIDANCE NEWS:

Who wants to lead a walking school bus or bike train, taking Union Elementary School students from their neighborhoods to UES on Friday morning at 7:30 this week? If interested in participating in this fun community service opportunity, see Brooke Pearson in Guidance.

Who wants to help with the annual intergenerational walk on Wednesday, May 14. Up to 20 students are needed to help out setting up on the Statehouse lawn and acting as course monitors along the walking routes. Volunteers get a neat t-shirt and get to spend a beautiful spring morning outside helping youngsters from around Vermont. See Brooke Pearson in Guidance if interested.

Who wants to help out with the annual Corporate Cup running race during the afternoon of Thursday, May 15? Help register runners and teams (including some made up of MHS teachers and students) and/or staff water stops along the route anytime after 3:00. A dozen students are needed, each of whom will get an event t-shirt. See Brooke Pearson in Guidance.


Vermont Intercultural Semesters - any students interested in learning more about the Himalayan Intercultural Immersion Program please come to Guidance for more information.

Part time employment options:

1. There is a part time position available for assist with clerical/office tasks. Must be able to type 60 words per minute. Position also requires excellent writing skills. See Matt McLane or the jobs board in Guidance for more details.

2. There is a part time job as a small engine mechanic at Pearl Street Motors on Elm Street. Owner is willing to train the right motivated individual. Responsibility an interest in learning and an excellent work ethic are required.

Seniors - Please be aware of scholarship deadlines. If an application requires a transcript and/or letters of recommendation, request them at least three days prior to the deadline or postmark date. Requests will be processed in the order received.

Attention 10th graders: The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar is a wonderful opportunity for one sophomore to be chosen to represent MHS for a weekend of activities, presentations, fun, leadership training, and the chance to meet many new friends from all over Vermont. Come get an application from the Guidance Office. It's simple and it's due Nov. 12.
