Visual Arts Skill Development (A5:10, A5:12)
  1. Student shows skill development when creating artwork by using drawing techniques including gesture drawing and contour line drawing, shading and texture.
  2. Student shows skill development when creating artwork by purposely-applying elements and principles of 2D and 3D design (e.g., 2D-applying color through the use shades, complementary colors; identifying and using form and texture; 3D-surface pattern on clay vessel).
  3. Student shows understanding of visual arts concepts and vocabulary by describing and combining elements and principles of design (e.g., value contrast, positive and negative, symmetry and complementary colors).
Reflection and Critique (A5:13, A5:14, A5:15)
  1. Student describes art using discipline specific vocabulary of visual arts: gesture, contour, linear and atmospheric perspective, scale, proportion, value, contrasts.
  2. Student analyzes, interprets and responds to art by explaining qualities (elements, principles of design, expression) that may evoke emotion and meaning.
  3. Student critiques and revises art by suggesting changes.
Making Connections (A5:16, A 518)
  1. Student makes connections between/among the arts and disciplines outside the arts by communicating ideas, concepts, and feelings from other disciplines (e.g., show understanding of science through art).
  2. Student shows understanding of how the arts shape and reflect various cultures and times by discussing the use of the arts within societies (e.g., anthems, flags/banners).
Approach to Work (A5:20)
  1. Student develops effective, personal work habits by demonstrating willingness to take part in the activity and see it to completion.
