Visual Arts Skill Development (A3:10, A3:11)
  1. Student shows skill development when creating art by demonstrating techniques and processes in 2D work (e.g., drawing, painting and collage).
  2. Student shows skill development when creating art by using various art tools and materials for specific purposes.
  3. Student shows skill development when creating art by using elements and principles of 2D and 3D design (e.g., 2d-mixing warm and cool colors, showing space through overlap, foreground, middle ground and background; 3D- demonstrating form in clay).
  4. Student communicates skills in visual arts by experimenting with media and materials to convey feelings or ideas.
Reflection and Critique (A3:13, A3:14, A3:15)
  1. Student describes art using discipline specific vocabulary of visual arts: watercolor, resist, positive and negative space, abstraction, symmetry, expression and exaggeration.
  2. Student analyzes, interprets and responds to art by comparing and contrasting works of art, which may include a student’s own work.
  3. Student critiques and revises art by asking questions about his/her own work and the work of artists.
Making Connections (A3:18)
  1. Student shows understanding of how the arts shape and reflect various cultures and times by demonstrating an understanding of how the arts have a relationship to time and place (e.g., Egyptian hieroglyphs).
Approach to Work (A3:20, A3:21)
  1. Student develops effective, personal work habits by demonstrating willingness to take part in the activity and see it to completion.
  2. Student demonstrates appropriate interactions by participating in individual and/or group work willingly and appropriately.
