Grade 8 Crafters Edge Curriculum Objectives

Digital Technology, Art, Family & Consumer Science 2009 - 2010

Communication: Expression, Artistic Dimensions
Safely approaches their media, creatively generates ideas, and solves problems as they arise.

1. Student generates ideas for products by developing a product idea, designing the product and identifying the materials needed to build the product.

2. Student creates ideas for products by performing a cost analysis.

3. Student creates a small marketing piece to reflect who might buy the product and why,

4. Student identifies a problem they encountered and describes how it was successfully solved, how the outcome was made artistically appealing, and how the product was made more effective by fixing a recipe.

5. Student identifies a problem they encountered and describes how it was successfully solved, how the outcome was made artistically appealing, and how the product was made more effective by better use of photos.

6. Student identifies a problem they encountered and describes how it was successfully solved, how the outcome was made artistically appealing, and how the product was made more effective by better use of glaze, paint or color.

Reasoning & Problem Solving: Abstract & Creative Thinking, Problem Solving

Plans and organizes all aspects of their project to meet an identified need. Uses organization, knowledge, and common sense to makes changes to improve effectiveness.

1. Student organizes a plan to meet a specific need. ie. product, craft fair, dance, inventory, stocks.

2. Student selects appropriate materials to meet project need.

3. Student takes steps to finish project in a timely manner.

4. Student makes a quick decision under pressure to make a needed change.

5. Student acquires several pieces of information to meet a specific need.

Personal Development
Performs effectively on a team, setting and achieving goals, solving problems, and creating solutions.

1. Student works as a team member.

2. Student recognizes a need for extra involvement and pitches in.

3. Student divides up duties among team members to meet a specific need.

4. Student brainstorms and communicates ideas.

5. Student handles conflict.

6. Student was willing to take on tasks that they weren’t sure they would be good at, but knew their involvement was needed and would benefit the team.

Personal Development Workplace: Dependability / Productivity & Dedication

1. After completing work, student helps others when needed.

Arts, Language, & Literature: Artistic Process: Intent, Artistic Problem Solving

Solves visual and spatial problems as well as conveying intent from creator to audience.

1. Student designs a product to be an eye-appealing & useful item (i.e. posters, advertising, products).

2. Student develops forms of communication others understand.

3. Student edits text and fine tunes documents for presentation.

4. Student creates the necessary atmosphere and presentation for the event i.e. craft fair, dances, craft fair diner, Crafters Edge sales table.

5. Student chooses appropriate materials to produce certain effects ie. dances, display of products.
