Fourth Grade Arts Curriculum Objectives

Visual Arts Skill Development (A4:10, A4:11, A4:12)
  1. Students will show skill development by using elements and principals of 2D and3D design (e.g., contour drawing, shading techniques to create a work of art that depicts 3D on a 2D surface).
  2. Student will show skill development by using various art tools and materials for specific purposes.
  3. Student communicates skills in the visual arts by experimenting with media and materials to convey feelings or ideas.
  4. Student shows understanding of visual arts concepts and vocabulary by identifying and utilizing elements and principles of design (e.g., space, warm and cool colors, organic and geometric forms).
Reflection and Critique (A4:13, A4:14, A4:15)
  1. Student describes art using discipline specific vocabulary of visual arts: geometric and organic shapes, contour line, still life, figure drawing, symmetry, and balance.
  2. Student analyzes, interprets and responds to art by comparing and contrasting works of art, which may include a student’s work.
  3. Student analyzes, interprets and responds to art by explaining qualities (elements, principles of design, expression) that may evoke emotion and meaning.
  4. Student critiques and revises art by responding to those suggestions that are effective.
Making Connections (A4:17)
  1. Student shows understanding of how the arts impact life by identifying the roles of the arts and the artists in the community and every day environment.
Approach to Work (A4:19)
  1. Student approaches artistic problem solving with an open mind and creative thinking by generating and trying out a variety of strategies/techniques to address challenges (e.g., How do I show depth?).
