6. My child’s application was approved last year. Do I need to fill out another one? Yes. Your child’s application is only good for that school year and for the first few days of this school year. More Vermont Families Able To Buy Nutritious Foods
Vermonters are a hardworking people, but in these tough economic times many struggle with the high costs of food, fuel, and other necessities. Thanks to recent changes in 3SquaresVT, formerly the Food Stamp Program, more working Vermonters may now be able to buy more nutritious food for their children. Income limits have increased so that a family of four earning up to $3,400 a month ($40,793.) may now be eligible for benefits. You will definitely be eligible for free school meals if you have received the Earned Income Tax Credit on your income tax, even if your household's income exceeds the above guideline. In addition, resources such as savings accounts will no longer keep you from receiving help. Go to www.vermontfoodhelp.com for more information.3SquaresVT is much more than just food. Enrolling in the program qualifies your children for free school meals. It also qualifies you for phone assistance. These added benefits mean money freed up to pay other bills and less financial stress in your life. Knowing that your children can eat 2 meals at school can help take the pressure off from you, AND give them nutritious meals that will help them learn and grow.
Everyone needs access to healthy food, and 3SquaresVT and School Food Service is here to help. Families who take part are not taking money away from others in need. Congress made it an entitlement program to assure there would be benefits for everyone. Plus, applying for these benefits not only helps you buy more nutritious foods for your children, but it supports your local economy by bringing more federal money into the state. Children who receive meal benefits will continue to have the same pin numbers and meal accounts. There is no reason not to apply.
Click here to download an application (requires the Adobe reader) for free or reduced price school meals. For more information, visit www.vermontfoodhelp.com or call 1-800-287-0589.
You can fill in some information on the website to determine if you qualify.
