Government?
The dawn of a new age has arrived. Out of the ashes of our old multi-national system of world governments a better plan for bringing order and prosperity to the earth's citizens is evolving. No longer will people from different geographic locations be governed by different philosophies. No longer will populations of one nation enjoy economic, social, and personal privledges that are denied to people in neighboring lands.We shall all live under a single system; a form of government that best suits the needs of everyone under its care. What will that government look like? How will it operate? That is the question before you and your team of political scientists.
Your team has been empowered by the O.A.S (Organization of American States) to recommend the best possible form of government for citizens of the Western Hemisphere. In making your decision, you will need to do the following:
* Define these eight major systems of government that have operated throughout the first two millenia of the earth's history: Aristocracy, Demomocracy, Monarchy, Oligarchy, Plutocracy, Theocracy, Dictatorship, and Totalitarianism.
* Familiarize yourselves with the operating principles behind each of these eight governmental systems, along with the pros and cons of each system.
* Research a number of different countries (past & present) that operate under these various forms of government to discover the effects each form had upon its entire population.
Besides the gratitude, praise, and rewards heaped upon your team by the entire Western Hemisphere, you will also receive a grade from Mr. B. (the benevolent dictator of Room 3) based upon the criteria outlined below:
* Definitions of each of the eight systems of government operative throughout human history. (15 points)
* A one to two paragraph summary of the principles and benefits/drawbacks inherent in each of the eight systems of government you've studied. (25 points)
* A one page essay explaining which of these governmental systems your team recommends as best suiting the people of the Western Hemisphere. Your choice should be supported by at least three lines of reasoning. (50 points)
* G.U.M. and presentation of your recommendation (10 points)
