Saving Trees
Sixth grade students identified the slow death of the maple trees out in front of their school as a problem. Through investigation into the cause, they realized that root compression from students always playing around the trees was the leading cause of the death. Students worked with the city's Department of Public Works to obtain and cover a large diameter around the tree with wood chips.
