Tire Legislation

Students have spent three years working to get a redeemable tire legislation on the books here in Vermont. This year, students have been working with the tire manufacturers to address their industry’s concerns. They are working to develop a policy/legislative bill that will meet the needs of the various constituents. At this point the tire manufacturer’s lobby stands in the way.

Need: Too many discarded tires in our world.

Students Involved: 20 students in a Montpelier High School environmental club.

Community Partners: Rep. Francis Brookes, Vermont Tire, Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District.
